Open a drawer in a French kitchen, and one will find Nogent*** kitchen knives and utensils. Since the year 1923, the Nogent*** company has produced cutlery, utensils, and surgical instruments in the town of Biesle in eastern France. It is an area steeped in history where the tradition of manufacturing knives has been carried out since the Middle Ages. Each year, the company produces more than 10 million pieces of which 30% is exported to Switzerland, Germany, Spain, and the United States. Nogent*** quality has earned the company its reputation as the 3-star cutlery maker of France, which is reflected in the stars following the company name.
The latest cutlery series is the Nogent*** Profile collection that was developed in collaboration with British industrial designer Sebastian Conran. Conran and his associates form an independent design studio that collaborates with international clients, such as Nogent***, to create charismatic products and user experiences that are contemporary, innovative, and designed to please. This is certainly the case for the Profile cutlery line.
The curves of each knife from heel to tip are designed for performance and comfort. Each knife style has a specific purpose in the kitchen, and the shape and length of the blade reflect this. The blade is stamped and beveled, made from high-carbon stainless steel with molybdenum for extra hardness (HRC 56-58). The exclusive Nogent*** Affidenté ® blade edge with micro-serrations (4 tiny teeth per mm), the knife is incredibly sharp for superior slicing performance and control. Best of all, the blade will stay sharp and never need sharpening!
The handle is made from a combination of solid walnut wood and molded polyamide that has never been done before. The hardwood brings a natural beauty and warmth, while the polyamide offers an ergonomic form and a high level of comfort and control. The handle is permanently molded around the tang and will never come off.
The smooth lines and gently curved surfaces, the warmth of the wood, the light color of the polymer, and the absence of rivets give an impression of purity.
The hardwood used in the handle is FSC certified from managed, sustainable sources. Total production of Nogent*** knives takes place locally in France using their own skilled craftsman with skills handed down through the generations. Local manufacturing also gives the company control over all phases of production while minimizing the transportation needs to main markets.
Included in the Profile series from open stock are a 4″ paring knife, 5″ utility knife, 6.75″ slicer, 8″ chef’s knife, 6.25″ santoku, 7.5″ serrated bread slicer, and 4.75″ steak knife. The kitchen knives also are sold in a 6-piece set, and the steak knives are also sold in 4-piece set.
